Weights or Cardio, which is better for Weight Loss?

Lets first look at Cardiovascular training. Different forms of cardio can include Running, Rowing, X-trainer, skipping, or cycling are always the popular pieces of equipment in the gym. For an hour of cardio you can expect to burn anything between 300-700 calories depending on how hard you train. Cardio is simple, easy to follow and definitely popular. Lets look at weights now.

Weight training used to be looked at from a far, with big men in vests pumping iron in a sweaty gym. However, these days more and more people are finding that lifting weight is getting them in shape quicker. The great thing with weights is that your body continues to burn fat after your workout. When DOMS occur (delayed onset of muscle soreness), your body is still burning calories and working hard. Sure, you ache a bit after cardio, but not as much. Regardless of whether you are trying to build muscle or tone up, you generally challenge your muscles harder when lifting weights as opposed to running. 

In my opinion, If I had to pick one, I would say weights. But the best solution is to do both. You get the best of both worlds, getting toned, strong and a very healthy heart. 

Find a local boot camp group, or a gym class to go to where they mix your routines with weights and cardio. This is the best option.
