Office Yoga. It’s one of the most popular workplace wellbeing initiatives in offices throughout London. There’s many factors to consider when setting up a corporate yoga class. Everything from the space, equipment, instructors, style of class, to communicating with your team. In this comprehensive 8 step guide, we’re going to break down everything you need to know, to set up a successful office yoga programme.
Before we get to the guide, let’s firstly explore the main benefits to setting up a corporate yoga class in your office.
As you can see, there are so many reasons why you would have a yoga class program in your workplace. For many businesses it’s an integral part of their overall corporate wellbeing programme.
Now, let’s get into the 8 Step Guide to Setting up an Office Yoga Class for your Workplace.
8 Step Overview
Step 1 - the space
STEP 2 - EQUIPMENT
Step 3 - Times, Days & Duration of Classes
The times, days & duration of your corporate yoga classes makes a huge difference to the overall success of the class. The most popular periods of the day are:
Step 4 - Booking System or Drop in
It’s important to track and keep a record of who is making use of the corporate yoga classes. You have two main options for this. You can use a booking system, or operate on a drop in/manual basis.
Let’s explore both options further.
Drop in Basis - Drop ins can work, but they are more manual and harder to manage. You could use a simple spreadsheet set up for example. If you have a very small team it can work, but for teams of 8 upwards this wouldn’t be the best solution for you. As the classes increase in popularity, you may find yourself in a position where you don’t have enough space and have to turn people away. If you are going to operate on a drop in basis, just ensure you communicate clearly saying it’s first come first serve for example. Manual set ups will require someone to manage and handle the day to day logistics.
Booking System - Booking systems are a great way to keep track of attendance, sending reminders & asking for feedback after the class. Many of the good booking systems work on autopilot which saves the HR team manual follow ups and checking people in every class. You may have an internal app with a booking function. You could use something simple like Eventbrite. Alternatively, Swift creates white label booking systems for our clients as part of our fully managed workplace wellbeing services. Reach out to us below and we can chat further. Our recommendation is to use some sort of booking/reservation system or work with a company to manage this for you. Start with scale in mind, and save your HR team hours of manual admin and logistics.
Step 5 - Style of Class
Step 6 - Your Instructor
We’ve provided hundreds of yoga instructors to companies throughout London since we launched in 2008. There’s no doubt about it, having the right instructor makes a HUGE difference to the overall success of your programme. A good instructor will be able to build connections & relationships with the attendees over time. They will also be able to tailor the yoga classes to the participants needs and adapt to individual needs & injuries.
Many companies don’t want the hassle of recruiting instructors themselves which is where we come in. If you’re going to source your own instructors,You should always check their certifications, public liability insurances, and do your research before on linkedin or instagram.
When we work with clients, we do all of the checks and set ups saving hours of due diligence. We also have a team of yoga instructors in London to call on if their primary instructor is sick or away on holiday. Whichever route you choose, take your time and ensure your yoga instructor connects with the group.

Step 7 - Employee Survey
Before launching your office yoga timetable, we advise that you carry out an employee survey. It’s a great way to see exactly what the people in your team think of your ideas. Keep it simple, with multiple choice answers. You might want to use some of the examples below.
You can ask anything you want, but be sure to have your primary objective in mind. In our experience, the shorter the survey, the higher participation levels. Once you have the results you will then be able to make an informed decision about which class, day & time suits the majority of the team. You won’t be able to please everyone, but it’s a starting point that you can always revisit and tweak as your corporate yoga programme evolves.
Step 8 - Employee Communication
Communicating your class to your employees is key, especially in the early stages. Whether you have an internal company app, messaging platform, community board or email system.
Be specific in your comms, let everyone know about the style of class, who’s teaching, instructor profiles, images, the key benefits, duration of class, days, times and how they can book. Aim to send something out weekly initially, which can then be reduced to monthly once everyone is aware of the service.
After the first few classes, aim to send positive feedback and reviews to encourage others to join.
