Lets break down the key factors to getting in shape & the steps we use as personal trainers: 1) Diet & Nutrition - The key to getting into shape is having a good diet and nutritional plan in place, it’s 70% Diet 30% training. You can train all you want, but if you aren’t eating well, you will be fit, but fat! There are some amazing Diet Apps you can get, we really like myfitnesspal. It’s a FREE app where you set your profile up, which then gives you your calorie goals depending on your activity levels, and body type. You then track everything you eat and drink, and can review your day to see your progress. Each day it gives you the motivation and your predictive weight if you stay on track. You can even add your friends, (or personal trainer), who can spy on your food diary! There are other apps available, but this is FREE and we think by far the best. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ 2) Exercise - There’s a saying that goes like this “You are one workout away from a better mood”. This is so true, every workout you have, you leave feeling fitter, happier and proud you have done your bit and are on the way to having a better body! There are loads of different apps on the market, you can pay up to £10 for a decent one. However, we absolutely love the Nike Training Club application. It’s FREE! But not just because it’s free, it has pre designed workout plans, from top trainers & celebs. The workouts have videos, photos, and guides for how to perform each one. Set yourself up a profile, choose your goal and then select your workouts. For in between your structured boot camps and PT sessions, this is great, your trainer will love you for it. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/nike-training-club/id301521403?mt=8 3) Tracking and Analysis - It’s all good having a programme in place, but if you aren’t tracking your weight, diet, fitness and your performance, how will you know if you are getting better? The best way to do this is to track everything, each week you can see how you are getting on and will either give you the kick you need to improve, or the motivation you need to continue on the fitness path. You can buy wristbands, which track your sleep, steps, calories, they can even wake you up in the morning. We really like Fitbit which you can get from amazon. Affordable, but has all the features the expensive sets have. http://www.fitbit.com/uk/flex To summarise - We think modern technology can really help you with your health and fitness plans. The keys to getting in shape is having the right plan, assessing performance, & then motivating you to carry on, or change as you see fit. Use all of the above apps and products as part of a structured training plan, and get people involved, tell your trainer and get some help to get you started. Good luck, and let’s get Fit! Technology has the ability to change the way we do things on a daily basis. From iphone apps, social media, tablets, kindles, we just love tech! But what about in the Fitness world? Can technology help you get fitter, lose weight, maintain your fitness and keep you on track? We look at all the new ways you can use technology to your advantage in the world of health & fitness!
